Sticker & Decal Installation
How do I prepare the surface?
Always begin with a clean, dry surface. Dirt, wax, oil, and other residue can prevent the adhesive from bonding properly.
Clean the area with a non-ammonia-based cleaner or an appropriate alcohol-based cleaner, then allow the surface to dry completely before application.
What temperature is best for installing a decal?
For best results, both the air temperature and the application surface should generally be between 45°F and 80°F.
How do I install a decal with transfer tape?
- Rub firmly over the decal to make sure it is adhered to the transfer tape.
- Clean and completely dry the application surface.
- Slowly remove the paper backing while making sure the decal remains attached to the transfer tape.
- Carefully position the decal. Once the adhesive contacts the surface, repositioning may be difficult.
- Press the decal onto the surface from one side to the other to help prevent air bubbles.
- Use a credit card or similar smooth-edged tool to firmly press the decal into place.
- Slowly peel away the transfer tape.
- Check the decal for any remaining bubbles or areas that need additional pressure.
Tip: Take your time. Proper surface preparation and careful positioning make a big difference in the final result.
Removing Stickers & Decals
How do I remove an old decal?
Gently warming the decal with a hair dryer can soften the adhesive and make removal easier. Begin at one edge and slowly peel the decal away from the surface.
What if adhesive residue remains?
A plastic scraper or plastic razor blade can help remove stubborn residue from appropriate surfaces. An adhesive remover that is safe for the surface may also be helpful.
Always test any cleaner or removal method in an inconspicuous area first.
Should I use a metal razor blade?
Use extreme caution. Metal razor blades can scratch glass and may permanently damage painted, coated, tinted, plastic, or other delicate surfaces. A plastic blade is a safer choice for most applications.
